The Problem We Set Out to Solve
We tackled a problem that frustrates teams every day, finding specific images like logos, banners, or product shots that are scattered across different platforms.
Have you ever:
- Spent too much time digging through Slack threads for an image someone shared weeks ago?
- Searched through Google Drive folders only to realize the image wasn’t there?
- Had team members save images to their personal desktops, making them impossible to find later?
Yeah… us too. 😬
As Confluence users, we saw a big gap, there was no efficient way to store, organize, or retrieve images. Sure, you could attach images to pages, but there was no centralized, searchable library for visual assets.
The Solution
This problem that we identified got us thinking... What if Confluence could become the go-to hub for visual asset management?
And that’s how Capable Images was born.
With Capable Images, teams can upload and store images directly in Confluence, creating a shared, searchable library that everyone can access.
✨ Key Features
✅ Centralized Image Library – Store all your images in one place, across Confluence spaces or site-wide.
✅ Folder Organization – Easily organize images into folders, like logos, headshots, or banners.
✅Metadata & Search – Quickly find the right image using metadata, tags, and filters.
✅ Flexible Image Insertion – Insert images with a simple slash command (/image
), then move, resize, and wrap text around them.
✅ Unsplash Integration– Access over 5 million stock images without leaving Confluence.
This tool has transformed how we manage images, and we know it can make a real difference for teams struggling with scattered assets.
How We Built It
- Image Storage: Stored directly in Confluence using Custom Content Forge, ensuring full control without external storage.
- Folders: Organized images intuitively (e.g., banners, headshots, logos) using Custom Content for easy navigation.
- Metadata & Search: We used Content Properties to store details (e.g., uploader, date, camera model) for quick search and filtering. Forge compatibility features help bridge gaps until native support is available.
Capable Images for Confluence was built with Atlassian’s Forge for secure, seamless integration. We used React and shadcn UI for a clean, user-friendly interface and the app is now live on the Atlassian Marketplace!
