Sites for Confluence
Turn Confluence spaces into a website with your own domain and theme. Each update builds a private preview first, and goes live only when you promote it.

Built on Atlassian Forge
You write and manage the content in Confluence. The site is a published snapshot of the spaces you choose.
What Capable Sites is
Capable is used by teams at
Before and after
From space to site
The same sample space as Confluence shows it, and as the website Sites builds from it. Drag across, and try a theme.
- Two-stage publish. Update builds a private preview; Promote puts that build on the live address.
- Your domain, your theme. One custom domain per site, and palettes checked for contrast.
- Built to be found. Sitemaps, per-page metadata, and llms.txt for AI tools.
What Sites does
Pick one to see it.

Nothing goes live by surprise
Update builds the whole site into a staging preview you can open and share. Promote copies that exact build to the live address and clears cached copies. Every change needs both steps: there is no auto-publish.
- Previews last 90 days
- Export the build as a zip instead
Your brand, your navigation
Start from one of seven palettes, then set your logo, font and colours, with contrast checked as you type. The spaces you pick, in the order you pick them, become the site’s navigation.
- Light and dark mode
- Up to 100 spaces per site
Your domain, and who can see it
Connect one custom domain per site with two DNS records, one of them optional. Make the site public, protect it with one shared password, or ask visitors to sign in with Atlassian, Google or Microsoft.
- Page restrictions don’t carry over
- Exclude pages with a label
- Google and Microsoft are set after you create the site
Ready for search engines and AI tools
Every page gets an SEO title, description and slug you can set from the Pages panel. Each site ships sitemaps, a Markdown twin and JSON of every page, and llms.txt, llms-full.txt and mcp.json for AI tools.
- Staging is never indexed
Rich pages, rendered
Confluence’s own elements render on the site, and so do Capable’s macros and many from other formatting and diagram apps. The support matrix lists each one.
Your knowledge is already in Confluence
Publishing it as a website shouldn’t mean a second CMS. Three jobs Sites takes over.
| Job | Today | With Sites |
|---|---|---|
| Publishing outside Confluence | A public help centre or handbook means a separate CMS, and copying content across every time it changes. | Pick the spaces, theme the site and publish. Authors keep writing in Confluence, with no code.Source: What Capable Sites is |
| Going live safely | Changes reach readers the moment somebody saves, finished or not. | Update builds the whole site into a private preview you can check and share. Promote puts that exact build on the live address.Source: Update and promote |
| Being found | Pages inside Confluence aren’t built for search engines or AI tools. | Sitemaps, per-page titles and descriptions, and llms.txt, llms-full.txt and mcp.json for AI tools are built for you.Source: SEO and metadata |
Your first site in five short steps
The wizard names it, scopes it, themes it, protects it and creates it. Nothing goes live until you press Promote.
Step 1: Name it and pick spaces
Choose the site name and web address, then the spaces, their order and their URL slugs. The address is permanent; a custom domain can come later.
Your first siteStep 2: Theme it and set access
Pick a palette, logo and font, then decide who can see the site: public, a shared password, or Atlassian sign-in. Google and Microsoft can be turned on afterwards.
Theme and designStep 3: Update, then Promote
Update builds a private preview to check. Promote puts that build live.
Update and promote
What teams publish
Documentation, a knowledge base, an intranet or a partner portal. Authors keep writing in Confluence.

Questions, answered from the docs
Each answer links to the page it comes from.
Do edits in Confluence update the site automatically?
No, on purpose. Every change needs an Update, which builds a private staging preview, and a Promote, which puts that build live. There is no auto-publish and no scheduled rebuild.

Do Confluence page restrictions carry over to the site?
No. If a page is in a space you publish, it is on the site. To keep a page off, give it the capable-sites-exclude label, or leave its space out of the site. Child pages need the label too.

Who can see a published site?
You choose for the whole site: public, one shared password, or sign-in with Atlassian, Google or Microsoft, limited to the domains, accounts or organisations you list. The create wizard offers the first three; a Confluence admin turns on Google and Microsoft afterwards. You can change it whenever you like.

Can I use my own domain?
Yes, one per site, connected in the site’s settings with two DNS records, one of them optional. Add the certificate record early: it is checked for up to 48 hours. The original address keeps working.

How many sites can I have?
3 per Confluence site on the Standard edition and 10 on Advanced, each with up to 100 spaces and 1 GB of published files.

Which macros render on the published site?
Confluence’s own elements, Capable’s macros and many from other formatting and diagram apps. The support matrix lists each one as supported, partly supported or not yet supported.
